What is VPS? For Newbie/Beginners
What is VPS?

virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Web Hosting Services.

A VPS runs its own copy of an Operating System (OS), and customers may have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS. For many purposes they are functionally equivalent to a dedicated physical server, and being software-defined, are able to be much more easily created and configured. They are priced much lower than an equivalent physical server, but as they share the underlying physical hardware with other VPS's, performance may be lower, and may depend on the workload of other instances on the same hardware node. Find more information here (Wikipedia)

A VPS is an abbreviation of Virtual Private Server.

A VPS is a virtual machine with configured and modified resources (CPU - RAM - DISK SIZE - BANDWIDTH etc).

Providers use different techniques : Virtualization (OpenVZ, Xen, & KVM) to partition the primary server called: Node.

We can install any software that runs on the OS (Operating System) on a VPS, VPS's are priced much lower than an equivalent dedicated physical server.

VPS can also be used for:
  • Web hosting
  • Cloud server(s)
  • Create a Game server(s) or hosting
  • Host multi-able website(s)
  • Many more.....
